What does 40, 53, 60, 68, 69 and 22 have in common? They all made someone filthy, filthy rich as these were the winning numbers to a Powerball draw that just handed out a stunning $730 million as an accumulated jackpot prize. The win happened on January 20, 2021 and is the third biggest Powerball win ever and fifth biggest lottery win of all times.
As reported by ABC Action News, the ticket was purchased in Maryland, USA. We don't know who the winner is as the person is yet to come forward and possibly won't at all as this isn't a requirement. However, what we do know is that the person who won the big prize won't be thinking about money ever again. The only thing he or she will be thinking about is how the hell he or she will be able to spend it all!
If you're wondering how a lottery can pay such a mind-boggling amount, this is thanks to a percentage of all lottery purchases contributing to a jackpot prize. In the Powerball lottery, this jackpot is only won when someone gets all five numbers + a Powerball number right. This rarely happens and in this particular case, it hadn't happened for about four months. The odds are only 1 in 292 million.
Powerball is an American lottery, but these days anyone in the world can play it online. To do so, you can visit GamblingBaba who has rated and reviewed a ton of lottery sites. At these sites you can also participate in other lotteries, such as the Mega Millions. Now's the time as this lottery currently offers an even higher jackpot prize - $970 million is rewarded to whoever chooses the right numbers!
As is the case with many humongous lottery prizes, the $730 million that was won from the recent Powerball draw will be paid as an annuity. In other words, a certain sum is handed out to the winner every year rather than the entire amount being credited at once. The winner can, however, opt-in to receive it all in an instant, but in such a case the prize is reduced to $546 million. Still more than most of us would spend in several lifetimes!
You may be shocked to hear that the big prize that was paid on the 20th wasn't even close to the record payout of the Powerball lottery - not even half the amount. The record jackpot sits at a stunning $1.58 billion and was won by three players in January 2016.
Now that the Powerball jackpot has fallen, it will be reset to its starting value which currently is $20 million. If you'd like to take a shot at it, drawings happen twice a week; on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
