Honda Motors has a long history of producing good quality reliable vehicles. If you're in the market for renting or buying a small crossover SUV, Honda Motors' new CRV and the new HR-V are both a good option. Let's put them against one and another and see which one is better suited for you, so you can make an informed decision.
Dimensions
Although it may seem that all small crossover SUVs have the same size, that is not true. There is usually some variance in their dimensions, and while the difference might not seem like a lot, it can result in more spacious legroom or more space in the trunk, compared to the other vehicle.
The CR-V length is 181 inches, width is 73 inches and height is 66.5 inches. The HR-V, on the other hand, has a length of 169 inches, a width of 69.7 inches and a height of 63.2 inches. So overall, the HR-V is smaller than the CR-V. This means that CR-V has a bigger trunk capacity than the HR-V. You get 39 cubic feet in the CR-V that can be opened up to 76 cubic feet if the rear seats are folded. However, the HR-V only has 24 cubic feet of trunk space that can increase to 59 cubic feet, if the rear seats are folded down.
So, if your major reason for getting a crossover SUV is space, then you should opt for CR-V.
Safety Features
Both the vehicles have superior safety features, as do all Honda cars. While both have 3 different airbags - front, back and side curtain, for maximum protection of the driver and the front passenger, only the CR-V has the Collision Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping System along with Road Departure Mitigation System. However, the HR-V has Blind spot monitoring for the higher trims.
So, if you are a cautious driver or there is quite reckless driving around the areas you live and travel to, then the CR-V is a better choice for you.
Tech
In today's world having your vehicle connected to your gadgets is a must. While both the cars have Bluetooth connections, the HR-V only has four speakers throughout the vehicle, while the CR-V has seven. Further, the CR-V has a two-inch bigger touch screen than compared to its counterpart with the added feature of navigation. It should be noted the higher trims of the CR-V also have the Apple Play and Android Auto connection feature.
So, if having cool gadgets and tech in your vehicle is a necessity for you, then the CR-V is a good option to get.
General Interiors
While both the vehicles have the typical layout of the crossover SUV, a three-row seating arrangement with the last row folding down to increase cargo space, the CR-V is said to have nicer interiors, with more comfortable seats and plenty of legroom. The HR-V on the other hand, do not have as comfortable a seat as the CR-V and while there is plenty of leg space for the third row, the headspace is a bit cramped due to the sloping roof towards the back.
If you have a big family and the only people likely to sit at the extreme end are children, or you want the bigger car for more cargo space then the HR-V is a good choice. However, if you want adults to be able to sit in the back from time to time, then CR-V s better suited for you.
Pricing
None of the above elements matters if the vehicle of choice is out of your budget. The starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MRSP) for the HR-V is $20,820 while the CR-V is $25,050. As this is just the MRSP, the retailer is likely to add their own margin and the price is likely to go up.
So, keep that in mind when making your decision.
Regardless of which vehicle you choose, both are excellent and reliable. It all boils down to your preference and of course the budget. If you can splurge, then opt for the CR-V as it has more and advanced features than the HR-V.
