Microsoft Access Database is a strong tool. It comes along as a component of Microsoft Office 365. Access is an excellent database desktop that links a database, programming language, user interface, and questioning & reporting tools into a user-friendly productivity tool.
The main objective of Access was to build SME databases and to maintain lists. Access is not intended to be utilized by high-strain, multiple simultaneous users, 247 server usage, having support forHosted Virtual Desktop, etc. It was also not designed for building line of business (LOB) apps with complicated logic and sensitive business data storage.
Access is simple to use, and as it comes along with Office 365 which implies company owners will usually build LOB Applications using Access, but sadly this indicates that a secretary or some non-professional programmer will design the LOB system with Access. Originally, the application is designed with no real structure. Normally, the person will not use links to support referential integrity, instead, they use the database to support the state by creating duplicate tables, and VBA or Macros are built without the knowledge of the mechanism of wrapping the data/functions or handling errors. With time the database becomes a disaster with old and new tables stuffed into the application and big sections of code that are not used. As the business progresses, the database size increases. Also, the number of simultaneous users increases. And suddenly, the Access application does not work as expected for the business, it performs inadequately and will not scale with the enterprise.
The Expense of Re-Engineering
Several business owners are not satisfied with the time taken to re-engineer the application into a secure scalable LOB application, the price tags, and migrate the sensitive business data that is now an important aspect of the business. They eventually forget that the primary application only took a week or two to design, as it had years of logged data stuffed into the application without the proper planning, software engineering practices, or relational database design systems.
The most significant unique selling point of Microsoft Access is the expense. Expense is usually an important point to consider, particularly in the current economy. Still, if the upfront expense is your most important factor in choosing Access for your business, or getting any IT arrangement for that matter, this can leave you short-sighted.
While creating LOB applications, there are several more aspects to consider than an expense. Here are a few:
