DETROIT, Michigan: General Motors will begin delivering its GMC Hummer electric pickup truck in December, according to Duncan Aldred, U.S. Vice President of Buick-GMC.
On a conference call, Aldred told reporters this week that the top-of-the-line "Edition 1" of the electric Hummer, which GM is launching after developing it in 18 months, will have a driving range of 329 miles and a starting price of over $100,000.
Subsequent models, with higher EV driving ranges and lower starting prices, will be released in 2023, he added.
Aldred said more than 80 percent of reservations for the electric Hummer pickup truck were for the Edition 1 model, and nearly half of the more than 125,000 people who have expressed interest in the Hummer made a downpayment of $100 to reserve the truck.
Ford Motor Co. will introduce its electric F150 Lightning next year, while Tesla is building a plant in Austin, Texas, to assemble their Cybertruck pickup.
Last week, GM had the Hummer pickup on display when U.S. President Joe Biden visited the Detroit-Hamtramck plant, also known as "Factory Zero." GM officials said it has already sold the first year's production of EV pickups.
The GMC Hummer SUV, which will be introduced in 2023, will ultimately become the predominant seller among Hummer vehicles, accounting for about 60 percent of all sales, Aldred said.
