The UK set out its net-zero strategy earlier in the year, highlighting the numerous ways that they are combating the global climate crisis that we are currently faced with. This along with the initiatives set out at the COP26 summit are hopefully the beginning of a positive drive towards saving the planet for future generations.
One of the initiatives introduced by the government was the Green Homes grant which encourages homeowners and landlords to go green and make energy saving changes to their homes to reduce their own personal carbon footprint.
There are lots of ways to go greener such as buying a new boiler but when you can take extra measures with some of the costs paid for by the government, you'll be able to sleep easy knowing you're doing your bit to protect the earth.
Seeing as though it is a new scheme it may be helpful to know what it is and how it help will help to improve the country and our carbon emissions. We've got all of the answers below.
What is it?
This is an incentive based-scheme in which the UK government will pay up to 2/3 of your energy saving improvements. This payment can go up to £5000 and the amount that you can claim depends on your household income e.g. lower incomes will be able to claim more than higher incomes.
To qualify, you must install at least one primary measure which includes low carbon heat measures such as underfloor heating or Insulation measures in places like the loft. Alongside this, you can also include secondary measures in your grant which consist of features like heating controls and draughtproofing.
What is the potential impact of doing this?
The benefits of this scheme are never ending but some of the biggest include 600,000 new homes being more energy efficient which in turn, will create over 100,000 new jobs which is a big deal considering the unemployment rates throughout the pandemic.
Our planet is in need of some serious healing and this is an opportunity that one should not miss out on, your home will benefit and so will our environment. It's not often we are presented with the chance to go green for a fraction of the cost so do not hesitate and find out if you qualify for this impressive scheme.
